Tsukuyomi -MOON PHASE- #13

Much better. This was like a 5-man party RPG boss battle. I loved how nearly the whole thing went down in a backyard.

And Kinkel's a real badass, even when he's sizzling on balconies.

Changes in the opening and the eyecatch.

Kujibiki Unbalance #1

Nothing special here, though I wasn't expecting much. It has a great cast, but I only liked three of the actual characters: Shinobu, Komaki, and Renko (Haruko Momoi, Yukari Tamura, and Ikue Ohtani respectively). And while Renko got a good chunk of screentime (or should I say yelltime), the other two barely got any. I need more drunk dojimeganekko action~

Ryuusei Sentai Musumet #12 & 13

Wonderfarm dropped the ball on this one. Eleven episodes to set up the what should have been huge final battle in 12, and the staff decides they need to put all their effort into the "dumb fun" episode after it. So 12 ends up looking like shit, and the major villain is taken out within seconds.

What the hell were they thinking!? Shion doesn't deserve this crap! I take back every nice thing I ever said about this show that doesn't pertain to the Saotome Sisters. Without them, this would be Garbage Incarnate; but since they're so awesome it's only Level 2 Trash.

Oh yeah...they didn't even use the freakin' robot! GRRRRRAWR!!!

Genshiken #11 & 12

Episode 11 was definitely my favorite of the series. Saki and Kanako were terrific. It's unfortunate it didn't have the quality look of 1, 9, and 12, though.

In the end, a couple of weak episodes and inconsistent production are the only complaints I have about this show. Other than that, I had a good time watching it, and certainly wouldn't cringe at the announcement of a second season.

Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha #13

Things settle down and Nanoha returns home. Fate comes to see her before she and Arf head off to a trial. Then my eyes go into cleaning mode.
"Nanoha" "un!"
"Nanoha" "un!"
"arigatou, Nanoha" "un"
"Nanoha" "...un!"

Sappy at its finest! What a great scene.

The exchanging of the RIBBONS. They both look way better without them, but don't say that to the Jasc Man.

Just as I was recovering from my last eye wash, they break out the bye bye waves!

Hmmm, the show I had the most doubts about ends up being my favorite of the season. It started off rough, but the latter half rocked my face. Hard. I'm so glad I stuck with it.

Mai-HiME #13

Akane turns into an off-screen psycho, Mai flips Shiho's puberty switch to the "on" position, and Alyssa blows up Golden Gate Bridge to clear the way for her seamen. We're off to a good start for the second half of the show.

On another note, Ray Tow annoys me. I hope he turns out to be evil so one of the HiME, preferably Natsuki or Nao, can beat the snot out of him. Or if not, maybe he can get accidently vaporized by Alyssa's ID4 Laser, along with Nagi.

Observation

A user named Orochi posted a link on Matthew's shoutbox to 2ch's ongoing Worst Anime awards thread. I'm sure the contents have been translated elsewhere (Futakoi and Kakyuusei 2 are battling for the top spot). I just wanted to comment on how episode 12 of Tsukuyomi has the yashigani award.

The yashigani (a type of crab) is awarded to something that desperately needs to be redone. The award's name originates from episode 4 of the anime Lost Universe, entitled "Yashigani Hofuru." The original TV broadcast version of this episode was horrendously bad, due to poor planning and other misfortunes. It was later touched up on home video releases. You can check out some comparison shots at the lower portion of this page if you're interested (left column TV, right column home video).

I don't think Tsukuyomi 12 was bad for the same reasons LU 4 was bad, but I definitely think it warrants a redo. It just caught me a bit off guard that so many others felt the same way, and that something else from a lower profile show wasn't chosen, so I thought I'd comment on it.

Backlog

Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas.

I was busy with family stuff this past week so I didn't get around to commenting on anything. I managed to get to a few today, though.

School Rumble #12

I must of rewatched this scene 15 times before I even continued with the rest of the episode. Tenma's cuteness knows no bounds!

Eri~! Your bikini hotness has caused me to remember your name. And it will continue to be remembered from here on in. Other ladies not named Tenma or Eri still have a ways to go.

The world needs more beach episodes like this. Well, the no-nudity world.

Tsukuyomi -MOON PHASE- #12

Did they get tired of animating halfway through? It was like a radio drama with pictures.

Mr. Akiyuki Shinbou, I hope this kind of direction was just something you wanted to "try" like all the quirky things you did in Nanoha. And I hope it's out of your system now, because I wouldn't be able to handle it again!

Changes in the opening and the eyecatch.

Guest drawing by NIO and Ringokick of Nitroplus. I really like this one. It reminds me of Shiwasu no Okina's work, who is one of my favorite ero artists.

Uta Kata #12

Stone Phillips defies all odds and breaks out of his shell!

This wasn't hot enough. Ichika didn't even have the decency to close her eyes!

Everything back to normal. Saya's phone bills are through the roof.

Back to school never felt so good.

So death to herself or the world? That was the big choice? Color me disappointed. The show in it's entirety wasn't too bad, though - I have no major regrets about watching it.

I see that a 13th OVA episode is set to be included with the second DVD-BOX. This had a pretty conclusive ending, so unless it's a super epilogue story, I'm thinking it'll be a fanservice story that takes place between episodes 2 and...5?

Gakuen Alice #8

Mikan finds out that Fruit Loop hasn't been sending her letters off to Grandpa. He makes up for it by taking a bullet for her, then sleeping with her. Just kidding. Oh wait, no I'm not.
